Play Off Dream Still Alive

Gary Speed Celebrates
So going in to the last game of the season away to Southampton we still have a chance of snatching a play off place it may only be a slim chance in some peoples eyes but it is there nonetheless and that in itself tells its own story about the way the club has turned the corner in the past few months.

Usually it is us who has to suffer the last day of the season heartache so it would make a refreshing change if the boot was on the other foot and something went for us instead.

Admittedly results have to go for us as well as us being able to win at St Marys but if the unthinkable does happen then you can guarantee that the other three teams would not fancy playing us after 8 wins in the last 10 games.

The 2-1 win over Bristol City was an example of this growing momentum and this is the type of game that we would have definitely lost earlier in the season.

The outstanding performer was obviously Gary Speed with his timely double strike and after initially taking some time to settle in he is now showing what a quality performer he is in midfield adopting a similar sort of role to the one that former players Stuart McCall and Gordan Cowans were so effective at.

The one thing I hate about the final game of the championship season is the switching of the matches to Sunday we know why it is done i.e. to maximise the interest etc but it is a nightmare for the fans delaying things for 24 hours especially on the Saturday when we are used to playing anyway.

Great blog, really informative piece on Sheffield United, I would love it if we could do the impossible and make the play offs on the last day of the season (at the expense of Watford please), if your watching a game why not stay in one of the many Sheffield United hotels.
