The Recent Lack Of Goals

There seems to be somewhat of a goal drought at present although for the past couple of seasons we have not been short of strikers but if we are not creating chances for them to convert it does not matter who you have got playing up front.

There now seems to be one or two murmurings from people who have decided Billy Sharp is in fact not good enough to cut the mustard at championship level indeed he has actually been compared to Luke Beckett which is complete and utter rubbish Sharp is a blade and because of that he is probably trying that little bit harder maybe he is trying too hard and needs to rediscover his goalscoring touch via the reserves although I have no doubt he will come good in time and before writing the lad off people would do well to remember he is still only 22.

Both Rob Hulse and James Beattie have recently returned from injuries and to be fair to them have looked rusty to say the least which is to be expected and even when BT was scoring regularly earlier in the season I always felt we were relying on him to score the goals a bit too much.

Jon Stead has not reproduced his level of performance from last season for me although in his defence he has been played out of position out wide numerous times recently (call me old fashioned but why do managers do that) and Luton Shelton is another who has yet to make his mark.

I am sure Kevin Blackwell is in the process of evaluating what his preferred striker pairing is although our midfield many would argue needs more attention.

We are short of a target man someone like Neil Shipperley.
